Based on the rationale that community-based programs, carried out at local level, integrated into municipality health policies, seem to respond effectively to trends in childhood obesity and gaining from the success and the experience of the implementation of AMEA teens, CEIDSS launched the AMEA kids project.

The AMEA kids Project – Health promotion in children – coordinated by CEIDSS, has the main goal on tackling and preventing overweight and childhood obesity, following the success of programs based on a interdisciplinary strategy to the ones most at risk, especially those with a low socioeconomic status and where overweight and obesity childhood are more prevalent.

AMEA kids selected children from a representative national sample and developed at municipality level, targeting the most disadvantaged social groups, with the goal of promoting healthy lifestyles and developing innovative responses in families with children between 6 to 10 years, during the year 2017.

Partnerships were instituted at Regional, Community and School Levels, facilitating the selection process and the invitation of the families. AMEA kids project developed at individual level (monitoring and tackling overweight or obese children), by trained nutritionists and at community level acting on Schools and on the municipalities.
